The Turning Point Suffragist Memorial Association

The Turning Point Suffragist Memorial was created in partnership with NOVA Parks, the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial Association (since dissolved) and the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission (also dissolved). It honors the millions of suffragists who fought more than seven decades to win the vote for women. Their story is another hidden piece of women’s history even though it was a national campaign that included incidents of arrests, jail, torture and even death. The garden-style memorial ensures that the suffrage story is elevated to its proper place in history and will educate present and future generations on the need for eternal vigilance for equal rights. Donations, both in-kind and monetary, came from 45 states and the District of Columbia making it truly a national memorial

Author, Eleanor Clift, made the case for the memorial by writing, “the suffragists engineered the greatest expansion of democracy in a single day that the world had ever seen, and yet…the leaders built no monuments to themselves, and too many of their names have been lost to history.”  The completion of the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial means their efforts will now be celebrated.
