TPSM on #WhyImVoting

By Whitney Stohr, Social Media Chair – Media & Marketing Committee

Last Monday, October 27th, The Huffington Post published an article on HuffPost Women, titled Why 27 Influential Women Are Voting This November (And Why You Should Too). Since then, the hashtag #WhyImVoting has all but gone viral, with women nationwide posting photos (selfies!) of themselves with signs telling the world why they vote!

As individual voters, we vote for different reasons; different issues matter to us more than others. However, as a collective — as Americans — the right to vote is something we each value. Voting is an opportunity to express our opinion, our individual voice. And as women, the right to vote is even more valuable because it is not a right that women have always had. When the right to vote was first granted to Americans in this country, it was not granted equally!

As the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial continues its two-week observance of the 1917 Night of Terror, members of the TPSM Association joined with women across the country by posting tweets with (hashtag) #WhyImVoting. After all, this is exactly why the suffragists marched, and why they endured the brutality during that long #NightofTerror.
